CDC also known as Continuous Discharge Certificate or Seaman's Book is an essential document for a Seafarer.

CDC is like a Passport in shipping, without CDC you can not work on a Merchant Navy vessel.

CDC is issued by the Government of Country, to which a Seafarer belongs.

A CDC keeps record of all the ships sailed by a Seafarer during his Merchant Navy career.

CDC once issued is valid for 10 years.

A Seafarer or Seaman can apply for revalidation of the CDC, 12 months before expiry or after CDC has expired.

The procedure of Fresh CDC application & Renewal of CDC is same.

For fresh CDC application - CDC will be issued.

For Renewal CDC application - Renewal sticker will be issued.

Who can apply for CDC ?

The eligibility criteria for applying a CDC in India is given below :

  1. Candidate should be a Citizen of India.
  2. Candidate should age above 18 Years at the time of applying for CDC.
  3. Candidate who has passed 10th from a recognised board or University.
  4. Candidate should hold a Indian Passport.
  5. Candidate should have completed the basic five STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch keeping) Safety Courses from a DG Shipping Approved Training Centre.
  6. The Candidate should submit a Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a DG Shipping approved Doctor.

Documents required for applying Indian CDC online :

The Candidate should keep ready the following documents before applying for the Indian CDC online,

  1. Scanned Passport size photograph (3.5 CM * 3.5 CM ) - With white background & face covering 70%.
  2. Scanned signature of the seafarer done with black pen. The size should be ( 1.5 CM * 3.5 CM ).
  3. Coloured scanned copy of all pages of the Original Passport.
  4. Coloured scanned copy of the Original Medical Certificate.
  5. Coloured scanned copy of the 10th pass Mark sheet.
  6. Coloured scanned copies of the all 5 basic STCW courses.
  7. Coloured scanned copy of the any Government approved address proof like Aadhaar card, Driving License or Voter ID.

How to apply for CDC ?

The candidate can apply for Indian CDC online.

The online processing fees for CDC application is INR 700.

Step 1 :

Go to the official website of Director General of Shipping .

Step 2:

Click on E-Governance.

Step 3:

You will land up on the following page.

Click on the e-governance shown in the left hand side of the page.

Step 4 :

After clicking on the e-governance, the login page will open.

Step 5 :

Enter your Login credentials.

Your Login ID will be your INDOS number and password will be INDOS number followed by 1.

For example, if your INDOS number is XXXXXXX4 then,

Login ID will be : XXXXXXX4 &

Password will be : XXXXXXX5

Step 6 :

After logging into your profile, check middle column written as " Seafarer ".

Click on the second option " CDC Management & CoC as Cook "

Step 7 :

Now click on the Submit option and select " CDC Application " for fresh CDC.

If you want to apply for the CDC Renewal Sticker, select " Renewal CDC (New) "

The following page will open in case of fresh CDC application,

Step 8 :

Read out all the Instructions and click on Continue.

You will get a form, fill up all the details as required.

Upload all the above mentioned documents.

Pay the fees.

Submit the application.

Step 9 :

Your application will be reviewed by a DG Shipping officer.

If all okay, your CDC will be approved and sent to you on your Permanent address by speed post.
